Wood flooring is always a nice addition to any home, but keeping them clean can be a hassle. In fact, one of the main reasons why people don’t have these beautiful floors is because they can’t keep them clean. In the end it isn’t as hard as you might imagine, and if you are consistent with your cleaning game plan, you can have your cake and eat it to. The first step would be to use a light vacuum or a broom to remove some of the obvious dirty areas. It shouldn’t take but a few minutes and this is the step that you will be doing the most throughout the week. I would recommend making it a part of the daily schedule, at least once a day for the full effect. You can work it into your morning routine or you can work it into the before bed plans that you have every evening. This is a simple step, and most of you probably do this already.
Next comes the mop, which in most cases can be just a Swiffer option or a full on mop. Just keep an eye on how much water you are using if you use a traditional mop, as you want the boards exposed to as little water as possible while still being able to mop them. Generally it is a good idea to do this at least once or twice a week, or before big events in your home. Also, you should ensure that you take your time and make it worth your while. Mopping is not doing a few swipes and then calling it quits after a minute, you want to do a thorough job that you can be proud of.
One thing to keep an eye on while you are cleaning your floor is what you should be cleaning it with. Sometimes adding a half a cup of vinegar to a gallon of water can be a great solution for these types of floors. There are also lots of other mixtures that can really help you reach your ultimate goal. But, like I pointed out before, you are going to want to see what your manufacturer recommends as far as any chemicals or cleaning solutions for the particular floor that you are looking into getting or have purchased already.
Hardwood floors are a real treat to have in any home, and they really make everything else in the room pop in a great way. If you can win the battle of keeping them clean you will have yourself a fine investment. It is true that they require a little bit more work than some other flooring options, but it is well worth it in the end when you see what a difference they make in the look of your house.
